About Us

We build mission-critical software for the defence and aerospace sectors. Our teams bring together software engineers, RF and electronics specialists, and domain experts to deliver turnkey solutions for problems with no off-the-shelf answer, across tactical radios, radar systems, and applied research.

Much of our work sits around the systems that produce signal and sensor data — building the software that generates, validates, analyses, and visualises that data at scale. The common thread is volume under time pressure, and interfaces that let operators and analysts act on what they are seeing immediately.

The Role

We are hiring a Python Backend Engineer to take ownership of high-throughput backend services. You will work alongside our front-end and C# application teams to build the infrastructure that ingests, processes, and routes real-time data streams across our platforms.

This role is for someone who enjoys asynchronous Python, complex data-flow problems, and the discipline of building production systems that need to run reliably under sustained load.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Ingestion & Processing: Design backend services that handle continuous, high-frequency data streams and telemetry from multiple sources, including raw and binary protocols over TCP/UDP.
  • API & Service Development: Build robust, scalable REST and WebSocket services using FastAPI, with proper schema validation, error handling, and observability built in from the start.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Implement and operate pub/sub messaging systems to enable reliable data distribution across microservices.
  • Database Design & Optimization: Model and query relational and time-series stores efficiently — raw events, derived state, and aggregated roll-ups — with attention to write throughput and query latency.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with hardware/embedded, front-end, and C# teams to define clean contracts and ensure reliable data flow across system boundaries.
  • Engineering Discipline: Write tested, reviewed, and documented code; participate in design discussions; contribute to deployment, monitoring, and operational practices.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: 4+ years of professional backend software engineering experience, primarily in Python.
  •  Asynchronous Python: Strong working knowledge of asyncio and concurrent programming patterns for high-throughput I/O.
  •  API Frameworks: Production experience with FastAPI (or comparable async frameworks such as Starlette, aiohttp, or Sanic) and pydantic-based schema validation.
  •  Message Brokers: Hands-on experience with at least one event streaming or message broker platform — Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, or equivalent.
  •  Databases: Proficient with PostgreSQL and capable of writing optimized SQL; comfortable with schema design, indexing, and query profiling.
  •  Time-Series Data: Working familiarity with time-series databases (e.g., TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, QuestDB) and the trade-offs of heavy-write workloads.
  •  Networking: Solid grasp of TCP/UDP, WebSockets, and HTTP/REST; able to debug at the protocol level when needed.
  •  Platform & Tooling: Comfortable on Linux, Git-based workflows.
  •  Testing & Quality: Demonstrated practice with pytest, unit and integration testing, and CI pipelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Binary Protocols & Telemetry: Experience parsing custom binary frames, working with raw telemetry, or interfacing with hardware or IoT data sources.
  •  Geospatial Data: Familiarity with PostGIS, GeoJSON/KML, or coordinate-system handling.
  •  Systems Interoperability: Experience interfacing Python with C/C++ libraries via ctypes, cffi, pybind11, or shared library bindings.
  •  On-Premises Deployment: Comfortable building and operating systems in air-gapped or LAN-only environments, not exclusively cloud-managed.
  •   Education: B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, ECE, or a related discipline.

Why Join Us

• Problems that resist easy answers. Real-time constraints, large-scale sensor data, and operational reliability requirements — on systems that get used.

• Architectural ownership, with a team behind it. Real design authority, plus the people and the mandate to see the decisions through.

• Management that doesn't cost you your technical edge. Staying hands-on is part of the job here, not something you negotiate for.

About the Role

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team delivering across several concurrent projects, own the technical direction they share, and line-manage the engineers doing the work.

You'll own system design, drive delivery, review designs and code, and keep a substantial piece of the build yourself. Alongside that you carry the people responsibilities for your team: 1:1s, feedback, performance and career development, and hiring. This is a technical role with a management dimension — we expect you to stay a practising engineer.

Key Responsibilities

System design & architecture

• Own technical direction across the team's projects, keeping design decisions coherent between them.

• Make sure the team's pipelines hold up as data volume, concurrent sources, and complexity grow.

• Hold the bar on your engineers' designs — consequential calls made deliberately and documented.

Hands-on engineering

• Own one substantial piece of delivery yourself at a time — deliberately chosen so it keeps your technical judgement current without making you the bottleneck.

• Stay close enough to the code that your reviews are useful and your calls stay grounded in it.

Project execution

• Turn requirements into a technical design and an execution plan the team can work against.

• Break work into workstreams, sequence by risk and dependency, and manage resourcing.

• Track progress, surface risk early, and own technical outcomes across the full lifecycle.

Technical leadership & team management

• Set technical direction, and review designs and code as a teaching mechanism rather than a gate.

• Line-manage your engineers — regular 1:1s, clear feedback, and honest performance conversations.

• Own career development: understand where each engineer wants to get to, and create the work and support that takes them there.

• Hire: shape the bar, run interviews, and make the case to the candidates you want.

Cross-functional partnership

• Work with data scientists, electronics engineers, UI/UX, and product to align on programme goals.

• Represent the team's position to stakeholders, and keep leadership informed on progress and risk.

Required Qualifications

Must-haves

  •  Still hands-on while managing. You've run a team without going stale technically — you can point to something you designed or built recently.
  •  System design at scale. You've shipped systems where architecture was the deciding factor, and can walk us through the tradeoffs you weighed.
  •  Delivery through a team. You've been accountable for what a team delivered — planning across concurrent workstreams, and keeping delivery predictable when priorities shift.
  •  Management experience. You've line-managed engineers — 1:1s, feedback, performance and career conversations — and can point to people who grew under you. Hiring experience ideally.
  •  Languages. Hands-on in one or more of C++, C# or Python, with enough familiarity with React or Angular to review frontend work. We work across projects with different stacks, so breadth counts.
  •  Core stack. Comfortable across microservices, real-time data processing, event streaming and caching (Kafka, Redis, or equivalents), and data-heavy frontends — fluent enough to review credibly.
  •  Experience. Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electronics, or equivalent practical experience, plus 8+ years including demonstrated experience leading and managing engineers.

Nice to have

  •  Exposure to defence, aerospace, or another mission-critical regulated domain.
  •  Experience managing a team through a difficult delivery — a slipped programme, a re-architecture, a team that needed rebuilding.
  •  Experience with time-series data stores, or binary / columnar formats for moving large datasets efficiently.
  •  Familiarity with sensor or signal-data concepts — enough to hold a productive conversation with our electronics engineers.

Why Join Us

  •  Problems that resist easy answers. Real-time constraints, large-scale sensor data, and operational reliability requirements — on systems that get used.
  •  Architectural ownership, with a team behind it. Real design authority, plus the people and the mandate to see the decisions through.

About the Role

We're looking for a hands-on Software Tech Lead to own the architecture and lead development of real-time, data-intensive systems across several projects — backend services and visualisation-heavy frontends.

You'll set technical direction, own architectural decisions, review designs and code, and mentor the engineers around you — while still building the hard parts yourself. Your leverage comes from the quality of your technical judgement and how much you raise the level of the people you work with.

Key Responsibilities

System design & architecture

• Own the architecture end to end — services, data flow, storage, and the backend/frontend contract.

• Design real-time pipelines that hold up as data volume, concurrent sources, and complexity grow.

• Make and document the consequential calls: service boundaries, streaming versus batch, data modelling, where to spend the latency budget.

Hands-on engineering

• Build backend services and APIs that process large volumes of sensor and signal data at low latency.

• Implement the data-processing and analytics logic that turns raw data into real-time insight.

• Work with event streaming (Kafka) and caching / inter-service communication (Redis).

• Build and optimise data-heavy frontend features — dashboards, charts, live visualisations — including state management and performance work for large datasets and live updates.

Technical leadership & mentorship

• Set technical direction and bring the team along with the reasoning behind it.

• Review designs and code for correctness, performance, and maintainability — using review as a teaching mechanism, not a gate.

• Mentor engineers through hard problems, and raise the bar on testing, instrumentation, and the practices that keep a real-time system debuggable under pressure.

Delivery & collaboration

• Break requirements into workstreams and sequence them by priority, risk, and technical dependency.

• Run sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, keeping the team unblocked and the plan honest.

• Work with data scientists, electronics engineers, and UI/UX to turn requirements into designs.

Required Qualifications

Must-haves

• Full-stack depth, currently hands-on. You're building across backend and frontend today, with real depth in distributed systems, high-throughput processing, and SQL or equivalent.

• System design at scale. You've shipped systems where architecture was the deciding factor, and can walk us through the tradeoffs you weighed.

• Full-lifecycle ownership. You've taken multiple projects from requirements through design, build, release, and maintenance.

• Technical leadership. A team's technical direction has run through you — via design review, mentorship, and credibility rather than reporting lines.

• Languages. Hands-on in one or more of C++, C# or Python, plus familiarity with React or Angular. We work across projects with different stacks, so breadth counts.

• Core stack. Production experience with event streaming and caching in a real-time pipeline (Kafka and Redis, or equivalents), and with data-intensive frontends.

• Experience. Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electronics, or equivalent practical experience, plus 6+ years including substantial real-time or data-intensive work.

Nice to have

• Exposure to defence, aerospace, or another mission-critical regulated domain.

• Familiarity with sensor or signal-data concepts — enough to hold a productive conversation with our electronics engineers.

• Experience with time-series data stores, or binary / columnar formats for moving large datasets efficiently.

• Experience introducing an architectural change into a live system without a rewrite.

Why Join Us

• Problems that resist easy answers. Real-time constraints, large-scale sensor data, and operational reliability requirements — on systems that get used.

• Architectural ownership from day one. Real design authority, not a role where the important decisions were made elsewhere.

• Depth alongside domain experts. You'll work directly with electronics and RF engineers, and pick up domain context that's hard to come by elsewhere.
